You need a solid plan to turn your app idea into reality. Too often, organizations rush their app <\/span><\/p>\n

to market without considering many key factors. A lack of planning is the easiest<\/span><\/p>\n

way to mismanage an app development project, ultimately leading to rework, lower profitability, and reduced value, <\/span><\/p>\n

so it\u2019s important for your organization to have a plan for mobile app development<\/a> that addresses the following questions:<\/span><\/p>\n

Why are you building the app?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

This may seem like the easiest question to answer. Yet I can\u2019t tell you how many times our clients have told us that they <\/span><\/p>\n

They need to build a mobile app, but can\u2019t clearly explain its specific purpose or how it differs from what they offer on their website<\/span><\/p>\n

or what is already available through their existing business system(s). It\u2019s important to have a clear vision<\/span><\/p>\n

for the app, as well as the business objectives it will help achieve.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the intended purpose of your app?<\/span> <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Does the proposed functionality add value for your organization or your customers? Will people want to use it? If the proposed functionality<\/span><\/p>\n

doesn\u2019t improve efficiency, make routine tasks easier to complete, or provide some other value, it\u2019s unlikely<\/span><\/p>\n

to be used. Focus on the functionality that will have the greatest impact rather than adding unnecessary features. <\/span><\/p>\n

Should you build a native app or a mobile web app?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

If your app needs access to device-specific hardware, such as cameras and barcode scanners, <\/span><\/p>\n

and so on, you may be better off building native apps for the platforms you\u2019re targeting. If you\u2019re <\/span><\/p>\n

simply looking to provide an enhanced mobile experience for your existing website or lightweight functionality, a <\/span><\/p>\n

mobile web app may be the solution. If you decide to go native, are you planning to build for iOS and Android, or do you <\/span><\/p>\n

also want to support Windows Mobile? If your target audience is medical staff using iPads <\/span><\/p>\n

that are issued exclusively by hospitals, developing your app for Android doesn\u2019t make sense. If it\u2019s expected <\/span><\/p>\n

that your app will be widely adopted and you have the right budget, it may be necessary to create separate versions <\/span><\/p>\n

for each operating system. A clear understanding of your target audience\u2014including usage patterns, user scenarios, <\/span><\/p>\n

Does the app developer have a good understanding of design and usability?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

If your mobile app isn\u2019t visually appealing, intuitive, and easy to use, it will be affected<\/span><\/p>\n

The app\u2019s ultimate success. It\u2019s important for the app developer to understand the platform\u2019s design options and constraints<\/span><\/p>\n

with the goal of creating the best possible experience. Usability should also be considered early<\/span><\/p>\n

in the project. If you build your app properly, users should be able to perform its intended function<\/span><\/p>\n

without assistance. Ensuring the app is developed to make the most of screen space, use appropriately sized buttons and fonts, and provide easy navigation between tasks<\/span><\/p>\n
