She is Nadine Hashash, a specialist in plastic <\/span><\/p>\n and reconstructive surgery and a Lebanese entrepreneur who excelled at Proximi, whose reputation has reached far beyond Lebanon. She was named one of the most influential women <\/span><\/p>\n in her 40s.<\/span><\/p>\n Nadine Hashash was born in California, USA, and spent her teenage years in Lebanon. She also studied for a time at the American University in Beirut, the Lebanese capital, <\/span><\/p>\n before traveling abroad to continue her medical studies.<\/span><\/p>\n Nadine had never dreamed of becoming a surgeon, but she decided to pursue it by chance when she turned 15 and met Dr. Kamel Abu Daher, a surgeon specializing in <\/span><\/p>\n Reconstructive and cosmetic surgery was a family friend\u2019s specialty. Nadine would accompany him when he volunteered to treat children, and from then on, she decided to become a surgeon.<\/span><\/p>\n Nadine earned her medical degree from University College London in the United Kingdom and joined the graduate-entry medicine program in 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n Nadine often traveled to work with surgical charities. She worked in the field for 10 years with the National Health Service <\/span><\/p>\n (NHS) in the United Kingdom.<\/span><\/p>\n .<\/p>\n During one of her trips, Nadine met Talal Ali Ahmed, a telecommunications engineer based in the United States who was volunteering with a charity, where <\/span><\/p>\n Together, they founded Proximie, a company built around using augmented reality to share medical expertise remotely and advance robotic surgery. Its goal was also <\/span><\/p>\n The primary goal was to make it easier for any surgeon to collaborate remotely through visual and scientific consultation, reducing costs\u2014especially travel expenses\u2014as well as saving time and lowering rates of <\/span><\/p>\n repeat surgeries. It also aimed to ensure that patients receive the best possible care the first time, while providing advice and support to local surgeons <\/span><\/p>\n by bringing in a specialist surgeon.<\/span><\/p>\n Nadine learned that around two-thirds of the world\u2019s population struggle to access safe surgery, and was determined to make sure the technology enabled surgeons to oversee procedures <\/span><\/p>\n performed in remote countries and regions, as well as in areas affected by war. This was considered a new advantage that reduced failure rates that could <\/span><\/p>\n result from some surgeons\u2019 lack of experience.<\/span><\/p>\n The platform\u2019s core mission was to ensure patients received the best possible medical care every time. With their thoughtful approach, Nadine and Talal spent a period <\/span><\/p>\n on a pilot program before launching \u201cProximie.\u201d It lasted a full year and took place between California and Peru, allowing them to confirm the value modern technology could bring, <\/span><\/p>\n while making a clear difference in patient care and driving transformative change in healthcare.<\/span><\/p>\n Although she worked in medicine, she placed her full trust in her technology venture, \u201cProximie,\u201d to get the support she needed to pursue her dream, <\/span><\/p>\n and bring it to life with the attention to detail she cared so deeply about.<\/span><\/p>\n .<\/p>\n \u201cProximie\u201d officially launched in 2015. In time, the idea attracted widespread interest and significant media attention, and then began <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cProximie\u201d works with a range of devices and can be added to various medical equipment. Forbes Middle East also named her<\/span><\/p>\n one of the most influential women in the Middle East that same year.<\/span><\/p>\n .<\/p>\n Nadine received tremendous support from her family and husband, who helped her balance her work with the needs of her family of three children. She emphasized that without <\/span><\/p>\n her family and siblings by her side, she would not have dared to aspire to achieve what she has at such a young age.<\/span><\/p>\n Nadine Hashash splits her time between Beirut and London. She makes a point of visiting her home country more than 10 times a year to check on her family\u2019s health while keeping an eye on how <\/span><\/p>\n work is progressing, since most of the employees are based in the Lebanese capital.
