Koo In-hwoi, founder of South Korea\u2019s LG Electronics, went on to manufacture the country\u2019s first radio, <\/span><\/p>\n dominate the electrical appliance industry, overcome every challenge, and successfully establish several health and personal care companies, eventually rising to the top of <\/span><\/p>\n the industry and making history for his country.<\/span><\/p>\n .<\/p>\n Koo In-hwoi was born on August 27, 1906. He attended Seoul\u2019s Central High School for two years. In 1926, he took up the position of <\/span><\/p>\n director of a cooperative association\u2014his first step into the business world. He lived in an era of low oil prices.<\/span><\/p>\n His first venture began in 1931 under the name \u201cPearl,\u201d and he entered the business of supporting business associations. He sold the land he had purchased in 1947, and in 1953 <\/span><\/p>\n he founded Lak Hee Industrial.<\/span><\/p>\n In 1959, he began producing radios by manufacturing the GoldStar radio. He later entered the production of telephones, fans, air conditioners, televisions, <\/span><\/p>\n refrigerators, and toothpaste under the Lucky Sodo brand, which successfully beat the American toothpaste brand \u201cColgate.\u201d He also produced toothbrushes and soap, as well as <\/span><\/p>\n South Korea\u2019s first industrial detergent. He also retained his leadership positions at \u201cBusan,\u201d the international newspaper, and the Federation of Korean Industries.<\/span><\/p>\n He established RSB Radio Seoul with Lee Byung-chul, the founder of Samsung, who decided to step away from electronics and focus on activities <\/span><\/p>\n In the social sphere, he established a cultural foundation in 1969. LG went on to provide scholarships and grants.<\/span><\/p>\n As a young man, he believed that harnessing the power of capital to improve competitiveness could free the country from Japanese colonial rule. Following Japan\u2019s surrender, <\/span><\/p>\n a cosmetics company was founded in 1947. As the Korean War came to an end, his company entered the plastics industry, <\/span><\/p>\n as well as the tableware business, with the aim of improving living standards for the people of Korea. As the country developed, the company\u2019s philosophy and priorities evolved with it.<\/span><\/p>\n .<\/p>\n Koo In-hwoi entered the radio industry, bringing news from around the world to listeners. After the end of World War II, he continued in an entrepreneurial and visionary spirit, preparing to meet <\/span><\/p>\n the dawn of the electronics industry, driven by his dream of laying its foundation in his homeland.<\/span><\/p>\n The seeds of the electronics industry had been sown, and the first local radio station was established. Given the company\u2019s circumstances and limited technology budget, importing radio components <\/span><\/p>\n was a major risk. This led Gold Star to develop and supply locally made radio components. Its decision to <\/span><\/p>\n manufacture its own products helped pave the way for the company to become a future leader in technology.<\/span><\/p>\n It was not only Korea\u2019s first radio; it also contained more than 60% locally sourced components\u2014an achievement the Korean press described as more than just a historic milestone.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n In 1958, Korea began relying on LG Electronics for most of its electrical appliances, and the company expanded into home appliance production, <\/span><\/p>\n becoming the first company in this field in Korea. Its sales exceeded one billion won within 10 years of its founding.<\/span><\/p>\n In 1959, production began on telephones, electric fans, toothbrushes, soap, and other products. At the same time, \u201cIn Hoi\u201d was able to <\/span><\/p>\n He served as deputy editor-in-chief of \u201cInternational News\u201d and president of the National Federation of Economic People.<\/span><\/p>\n Amid the turmoil, the company grew into a source of hope for Koreans struggling to live among the ruins of war, eventually exporting its first<\/span><\/p>\n radio to the United States in 1962.<\/span><\/p>\n The group comprises around 12 companies operating in a range of sectors.
