The founders: the making of the geniuses<\/span>Sergey Brin and Larry Page are the stars of today\u2019s success story.<\/span><\/p>\n

These two young men grew up in an environment built around two fundamental things: mathematics and computers. For them, everything was a math problem. Everything. <\/span><\/p>\n

A point worth exploring is that the two shared the same interests and ambitions, as well as skills that complemented each other.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both families recognized their children\u2019s potential from an early age. Both children attended Montessori school, which focuses on fostering and developing abilities <\/span><\/p>\n

creativity in young children, as well as their mental and physical skills during adolescence.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sergey\u2019s parents also specialized in science and technology. His mother worked as a researcher at NASA\u2019s Goddard Space Flight Center, where she worked on a program simulating the natural conditions that affect space travel, such as atmospheric pressure and temperature. Brin, a mathematics professor at the University of Maryland, published several research papers on solving complex mathematical problems and contributed to the fields of <\/span><\/p>\n

abstract geometry and motion systems. As a result, both families played a significant role in shaping the \u201csuccess story\u201d of these two innovators.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is what happened with Sergey Brin and Larry Page at university: these two ambitious geniuses met by chance, got to know each other, and talked about many different subjects. <\/span><\/p>\n

They discovered that they shared the same dream: finding important information among hundreds or thousands of pieces of data. This became the foundation of their \u201csuccess story.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, theory alone is not enough to foster creativity. It needs to be refined and applied through practical experience\u2014and that is where the jobs held by these two geniuses came in. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sergey Brin and Larry Page\u2014the idea that would later lead to the founding of the famous company Google.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brin got a university job researching information across a vast database, while Page got a job at AltaVista.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the time, AltaVista was the most famous search engine, and this is where their success story began.<\/span><\/p>\n

A search engine: the inspiration behind the two partners\u2019 success story<\/span><\/h2>\n

Page was always fascinated by the search engine: how it displayed results as links, and clicking on a site opened it on another page. It was something... <\/span><\/p>\n

It was new to him, but what he thought about most was how to put the most important information first in the search engine. He wondered how to make the entire internet a subject... <\/span><\/p>\n

\u2026on a small computer. When he posed this question to his professor, the professor called him crazy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n Google is born\u2026 From poverty and determination, Google was born:<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u201cPage\u201d met up with his friend \u201cBrin\u201d and found that he was thinking along the same lines and pursuing the same goal. They agreed to build their own search engine, given their capabilities. <\/span><\/p>\n

After assessing what they wanted in mid-1998, and while developing the search engine, the two began looking for a backer who could help them retain ownership of the code. But\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n

Their friend David Filo, founder of Yahoo!, encouraged them, saying it would be better to start a company and develop the search engine themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

But they needed money. They left their PhD plans behind, drew up a business plan and strategy, and went looking for a backer and investor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lack of funding stood in the way of Google\u2019s success story<\/span><\/h2>\n

Their first step was made easier when a university member connected them with Andy Bechtolsheim, one of Sun\u2019s founders. <\/span><\/p>\n

He told them, \u201cI don\u2019t want to get into the details; I don\u2019t have time. How about $100,000? Will that be enough? I\u2019ll make it payable to a company called \u2018Google.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But their problems weren\u2019t over\u2026 Google didn\u2019t exist at the time, so they couldn\u2019t cash the check.<\/span><\/p>\n

A simple mistake gave birth to Google<\/span><\/h2>\n

They decided to give the search engine and the company a name connected to the company\u2019s purpose. They chose to name the company<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGoogol\u201d\u2014a mathematical term for the number 1 followed by one hundred zeros.<\/span><\/p>\n

But a typo when registering the domain turned it into \u201cGoogle\u201d!<\/span><\/p>\n

Over time, the name became \u201cGoogle,\u201d and the term has since entered dictionaries to mean using the Google search engine to find information.<\/span><\/p>\n

Patience bears fruit, and relief will come\u2026 a remarkable success story.<\/span><\/p>\n

And, at last, signs of a breakthrough began to appear.<\/span><\/p>\n

This time, they secured a $1 million bank loan and launched the company within two weeks\u2014on September 7, 1998, to be exact.<\/span><\/p>\n

They worked day and night to improve the search engine until it could compete with others\u2014and even outperform them. They were indeed named \u201cBest Search Engine\u201d by a computer magazine.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the time, Google was handling 10,000 queries a day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ambition was to create more than just the best search engine\u2014it was to build the greatest success story<\/span><\/h2>\n

As mentioned earlier, their goal was to find a way to rank website links by importance. The two succeeded in developing a search engine model based <\/span><\/p>\n

on the relationships between websites, rather than simply on how often the search term and its variations appeared on them.<\/span><\/p>\n

After extensive research, in 1999 they developed what is now known as The Ads adswords-Pageranking\u2014the ability to generate revenue through search. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the search engine, Google was the first to develop and invent this technology, enabling certain websites to appear at the top of search results.<\/span><\/p>\n

They beat AltaVista!<\/span><\/p>\n

However, they assigned the technology to the university, since all the research had initially been conducted there, and the judge also ruled that the rights belonged to the university.<\/span><\/p>\n

All rights are registered in the university\u2019s name, and Google is entitled to use them through 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2000, Google began using technology and a service for selling ads through search keywords. This technology was pioneered by goto.com, and later<\/span><\/p>\n

Yahoo acquired it and renamed it Yahoo Search Marketing. At first, Google and Yahoo operated under a partnership agreement, but later\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n

Google acquired the technology.<\/span><\/p>\n

Google was the first to turn a profit<\/span><\/h2>\n

Everyone was failing to generate revenue from search engines except Google, which was able to use the technology very effectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

Google later introduced the Google Toolbar, which let users search without visiting the website. The toolbar gained <\/span><\/p>\n

widespread popularity and made users much more closely connected to Google\u2019s services.<\/span><\/p>\n

Google later made its services available in Arabic, Turkish, and more than 26 other languages.<\/span><\/p>\n

Google also offers many free services and programs, including advertising, photo, discussion group, news, book, and shopping services;<\/span><\/p>\n

as well as blogging and encyclopedias. One of Google\u2019s most important software products is Google Earth, which lets users view most of the world\u2019s cities and regions <\/span><\/p>\n

using satellite and aerial imagery.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nine years ago, Google began with $1 million in funding. Today, Google\u2019s market value exceeds $150 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Page\u2019s fortune is currently estimated at around $18 billion, placing him 33rd on Forbes\u2019 list of the world\u2019s richest people, directly behind his partner Brin. As for Brin<\/span><\/p>\n

His net worth now exceeds $18 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n

This story isn\u2019t made up\u2014it\u2019s happening right here on this planet. These two young men are just like you and me, but they were\u2014and still are\u2014ambitious and confident in every step they take. <\/span><\/p>\n

They aren\u2019t deterred by anyone\u2019s opinions, criticism, or mockery. They know their dream and their abilities best.<\/span><\/p>\n
